Microsoft Security Update Causes Bluescreen

02.16.10

See that picture on the left?  Those of you who have been around PCs for long enough will recognize it as the infamous "Blue Screen of Death" (BSOD).  And, unfortunately, it has made a widespread comeback for XP users in the wake of some security updates Microsoft released last Thursday (2/11/10).

Apparently, a much-needed security update has incapacitated quite a few PCs running Windiws XP; users report (and we have experienced) encountering the BSOD after compliantly restarting their computers to finish the update.  Basically, a bug in the update is preventing XP from booting normally.  You can read more about the problem and Microsoft's solution at InfoWorld.

Now, if you encounter this bug, know that your data and/or programs are not lost, and there are steps you can take to get XP up and running again.  We have experience fixing this bug, and we would be happy to help you bring your computer back to normal functioning.  We expect that it would take about an hour of billable work to fix this problem, assuming there are no other problems with your computer.
